In the same way that Cindy Sherman would take ‘self’-portraits dressed up in many guises from housewife to B-movie actress the new show at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York is displaying a collection of work done in that theme entitled “Photography and the Self: The Legacy of F. Holland Day”. Day’s 1898 work The Seven Last Words of Christ is a central piece and is shown along with work from 14 other more recent photographers.
