Upbringing and Early Passion

Jonathan Reynolds’ journey as an artist started in his childhood.

“When I was young, I was always enthralled with freezing a moment in time. I always had a camera in my hand growing up in the small town of Snowflake, located in the White Mountains of Arizona.”

This early fascination with photography laid the foundation for his future career. It wasn’t until he relocated to Colorado that he truly fell in love with landscape photography, and soon, he turned his passion into a profession.

In the Artist’s Own Words:

Are your photographs commissioned?

My photographs are not commissioned; however, I do sell my photos usually in large format, limited editions for client’s homes, offices, or lobbies throughout galleries or art shows.

Was there ever a time when you were surprised & excited by how a photo or project turned out? 

Astrophotography is always so unique shooting under the stars. I am always surprised and blown away by the vastness of our night sky. I like capturing how beautiful and expansive our solar system is while showcasing what can and cannot be seen by the naked eye.

Do you think about what you want people to feel when they experience your work?

Yes, I want people to feel as if they were standing behind the camera themselves. Being able to experience and return to a special moment that originally connected them to a piece.

Are your portrait patrons in a particular demographic? Example – small business owners vs. corporate executives; single professionals, etc.

My pieces have been purchased by individuals, businesses, multiunit lobbies, etc. I connect and mainly do business with clients one-on-one to be shared in their homes and personal spaces. Connecting with the client to find pieces that mean something to them and remind them of a special time and place whether it be within their backyard or while on vacation or traveling.

How do you work? Is it primarily on your own, or as part of a team?

I usually work on my own but do enjoy getting out there with other friends and photographers shooting together while brainstorming for the next great composition and adventure.

What’s next for you?

My wife Laura and I, with our dog Dakota plan to be moving to Steamboat in the upcoming months and will be opening a new art gallery downtown. We will also continue to be in Art Shows throughout the US.

What advice would you give a creator/artist who is just starting out?

I would say it is important to get out there and get out of your comfort zone in your environment. Try new techniques and learn what works best for you and your style. Repetition is also the best way to capture your best image while refining your skills.

What are the characteristics of a quality photographic print?

High resolution, color calibration, craftsmanship, and easy hanging are important not only for me but also for the client. I put my trust into ArtisanHD and in return, I find myself with more time to connect with patrons and shoot. Artisan gives me the confidence that my work will be produced to the best of its ability.
